PAWS Animal Welfare Society, Inc.
PAWS is a nonprofit organization that rescues abandoned cats in the St John Valley, Aroostook County, Maine. PAWS also works closely with the Fort Kent Police Department when dogs are abandoned or lost.
We currently operate as a temporary holding facility that allows us some time to find forever homes or foster homes. We believe most pets can be socialized and prefer not to release them back outdoors as our winters are harsh in Northern Maine. Because we operate as a no-kill shelter, we have started a building fund to purchase land or a building that will help us rescue more animals as the need arises.
Our mission is to get owners to spay and/or neuter their animals to help cut down on the population and give all animals a better chance at a quality life. PAWS Animal Welfare, Inc. spays, neuters and vaccinates mature animals before they are placed out for adoption.
We welcome ANYONE who wants to help better the lives of unwanted cats or dogs. For information on how you can help these needy animals, please check the How You Can Help and/or Donations & Volunteer sections of this website. The animals are grateful for your support. Just look at the happy faces on the ADOPT page!
