Jean was born and raised in Standish, ME. Jean's strong belief in animal rights and preserving our natural environment has resulted in a lifelong commitment to helping cats. She began rescuing cats on her on in the 1970's and joined the Friends of Feral Felines of Greater Portland in the early 1990's. Jean moved to St. Agatha in Sept. 2006 and became a founding member of PAWS Animal Welfare Society, Inc. a few years later.

I have studied animal behaviors. Since the age of 18 have worked in the health field..experience as a CNA, Home Health Aide, CRMA as well as Physical therapy aid. Took training to teach First Aid and CPR..also to inspect homes for health and safety. I discovered years ago my actual calling was with animals.. There is such joy and pleasure in taking care as well as owning them. To date I have 3 cats, an American Pitbull Terrier..as well as a bird. At one time I owned 10 cats..and they all got spayed/neutered. Originally from Caribou, St. John Valley is my home away from home. Our goal is to help establish new forever homes. The unconditional love from these animals is so rewarding..it melts my heart. These valuable creatures are so precious.

I am the PAWS secretary. I was born in rural central Massachusetts and raised in northern Vermont. I have a Ph.D in anthropology, a M.Ed in multicultural education and a M.A. in archaeology. I am disabled. I moved to northern Maine 13 years ago. I am a professor of anthropology and sociology at UMFK, and the music minister at Christ Church Congregational, Fort Kent. I am definitely a “crazy cat lady”. I currently share my home with several cats and kittens, all strays or foundlings, ranging in age from 15 years to 6 weeks. Most of them have permanent mental or physical disabilities that otherwise limit their adoption options. I also do gourmet cooking, organic gardening, herbalism, and historic re-enactment.
